Sustainable AI use: from 2026 and beyond addresses the environmental cost of artificial intelligence in scientific research and healthcare. As AI adoption has accelerated across sectors, so have the concerns about the resources these systems consume, the waste they generate, and the burden places on the communities that host them.
Governance discussions have not kept pace. Where they exist, they tend to be sector-specific: policymakers, AI developers and the researchers and clinicians who use these tools rarely address the question together. The result is a gap between governance frameworks and the conditions under which AI is deployed, and it is in that gap that sustainable AI use fails to translate into practice
This conference is co-organized by the Geneva Health Forum (GHF), and the Geneva Digital Health Hub (gdhub) and , it will examine how new forms of collaboration can support responsible and sustainable AI use in global health
The conference brings these stakeholders into the same room: policy makers, scientific communities and private sector AI developers, as well as its users, to formulate viable solutions together. Panel discussions and an interactive workshop give end users a direct role in shaping the outcomes rather than receiving them.
Recommendations from the conference will inform a policy brief setting out measures that are workable for the people expected to implement them. The GHF’s and gdhub’s interdisciplinary reach and stakeholder community provide a pathway for continued dialogue beyond the event itself.
